End of Year Event: End of Year Debates and Interactive Drama Show held by the Preparatory School
June 12, 2025
Üsküdar University’s Preparatory School’s End-of-Year event captivated attendees with a dynamic blend of academic discussion, artistic expression, and theatrical performance, highlighting the impressive progress and talents of its English Preparatory School students.
The program commenced with opening speeches by Prof. Dr. Muhsin Konuk, Head of the Common Courses Department, followed by the Foreign Languages Coordinator, Dilek Batur. Both speakers emphasized the importance of language learning as a bridge to global citizenship and praised the students' dedication throughout the academic year.
The event's intellectual tone was set by two spirited debates featuring C1 and B2 level students. The first group — Melisa Altunsoy, Kadida Diallo, Aybike Türkeri, and Beyza Demet — tackled the complex and controversial topic of "Positive Discrimination for Women." Their thoughtful arguments demonstrated both critical thinking and linguistic confidence.
The second debate group, comprising Sude Naz Ozat, Simay Efsun Velioğlu, Eylül Keçiyokuşu and Melek Şevval Kömürlü, explored whether “Arts and Music Should Be Compulsory Lessons Even for Science Majors,” a discussion that resonated strongly with the audience and emphasized the value of holistic education.
Adding a melodic touch to the program, former Preparatory School students Ece Altun and Kutay Kaya delivered a musical performance that showcased their artistic talents, further enriching the event with emotion and energy, singing songs in both English and Turkish, while playing the guitar.
The event concluded on an inspiring note with an interactive play. The play was performed by students who had started the academic year at A2 level and are now performing at B2 level. The students' theatrical presentation was not only a testament to their language development but also to their creativity and teamwork. It also helped highlight the importance of extra-curricular activities while learning a language.
The showcase left guests, faculty, and fellow students alike impressed by the remarkable growth, talent, and enthusiasm of the Preparatory School— a celebration of what can be achieved through dedication, collaboration, and the power of education.
